Did you just buy a new or fairly new house, but the walls are bare without any design personality? Whether you're a first-time homebuyer or a homeowner moving to a new location, starting a new home design journey is exciting and slightly terrifying. With so many spaces to choose from, the big question that arises is: Which room do I design first? This may seem like a small decision, but trust me, choosing the right room can set the tone for the rest of your design choices. In this blog post, we'll explore which room to tackle first - because let's face it, choosing can be harder than picking a Netflix show! But don't worry, we've got you covered.
When it comes to choosing the first room to decorate, there are no hard and fast rules. One must ponder over the needs of your family. After all, you don't want them to plot against you, do you? Do you have young kids who need a fun and functional space to play and rest? Or perhaps you work from home and require a home office that is both practical and inspiring? The first room you decide to design should reflect the needs of your household.
For most homeowners, the bedroom is often the first space to receive design attention. After all, this is the space where you'll spend the majority of your time, and it's essential to make it a comfortable and cozy sanctuary for rest and relaxation. Another option is to design the living room or a common area first. This space is often the heart of the home, where family and friends gather for socializing, relaxing, and entertainment.
Shayna, I'm dying to know what you are designing first, don't keep me hanging! Well, have you ever noticed when you move that you own more things than you thought possible? It's like they multiply overnight. I'm in love with decluttering! As hard as it is to part ways with sentimental items, the purge of unnecessary stuff has left me feeling like a future minimalist. Watch out Marie Kondo! Between boxing up and bussing out, moving houses is quite the adventure. (I won't deny shedding a tear… or two… or twenty), especially because we lived in California for a long long time. But for me, it's also a chance to start anew and create a space that truly reflects our family's personality. Time to make some pint-sized humans happy! Let's start by designing their rooms 🎉 Sorry hubby, the little ones come first!
I must confess, I'm prioritizing my kiddos' rooms because I intend to lure (bribe) them with an awesome hangout spot, imagination station, and homework zone. Gotta use all the tricks in the book as a parent, am I right? But also, designing their rooms is a fun and exciting way to kickstart our design journey in our new home. Designing kids' bedrooms can elevate you to "cool parent" status. It's a chance to unleash your creativity and create a space that sparks endless joy and imagination.
Whether it's the kitchen or the bedroom, your design should reflect YOU, not the latest celebrity trend. Embrace your inner designer and create something that screams "This is me, world!" Cookie-cutter designs need not apply. Instead, opt for designs that showcase your individuality and preferences. Remember, your home should reflect your personality and the things you love.
The first room is always the first hurdle of decorating - daunting yet thrilling! It's a chance to concoct a space that sparks utmost bliss and inspiration. When choosing, let your family's style and preferences be your guiding light.
